Using cloth sanitary pads can save millions of plastic disposable sanitary products being produced, and being wasted through landfill, or worse ending up in our oceans. But the start of using cloth sanitary products can be overwhelming too and it’s hard to know where to begin. I highly recommended emailing the period lady for a personalised recommendation on what CSP to choose so you invest in the right CSP for you. CSP can save you money in the long term too. And these aren’t hard to use.
Bare and boho CSP
Bare and boho are super slim pads perfect for periods and postpartum bleeding. These stylish pads are made from organic cotton and topped with an organic cotton fleece top which is soft against your skin. The organic cotton fleece top helps with absorbing menstrual fluid quickly but keeps you feeling dry during your period. The heavy pads are three layers of organic cotton which is great for absorbency but still remain slimmer than the average heavy flow disposable alternative. These are great as night time pads, heavy flows and postnatal lochia.
How these cloth sanitary products don’t leak is because there is a thin layer of PUL at the bottom of the pad which is water resistant. As a result we recommend not tumble drying any CSP with a PUL backing to increase the longevity and lifetime of your pads.
Simply snap the poppers around your underwear to fasten, and there no risk of anything sticking against your skin unlike disposables. The poppers enable the CSP to fold into a small thin square which is great for transporting out and about in your bag or pocket.
The downside of these pads is they can stain easily in comparison to darker topped cloth sanitary pads but soaking in cold water after use can reduce the chances of stains. As always we recommend washing your csp at least every two days using non bio powder. You can store after use in a wetbag.
ELLAS house CSP
Ella’s house CSP pads are made from hemp and cotton which are good materials for higher volumes of absorbency. These are a similar thickness to a cheeky mama pad so on the slimmer side of pads, but thicker than a bare and boho pad.
How these cloth sanitary pads don’t leak is because there is a thin layer of PUL at the bottom of the pad which is water resistant. As a result we recommend not tumble drying any CSP with a PUL backing to prevent the PUL melting which will result in leaks and decrease the longevity and lifetime of your pads.
The beautiful thing about these pads is the design goes around the whole pad which is different to many pads where there is a plain material on top of the pad and the design underneath. Ellas house moon pads have grooves on to help direct the flow of menstrual fluid into the pad.
This pad uses poppers, just snap the poppers around your underwear to fasten, and there no risk of anything sticking against your skin unlike disposables. The poppers enable the CSP to fold into a small thin square which is great for transporting out and about in your bag or pocket.
